HOW'D THIS HAPPEN?
Mathew found his love of photography at an early age quite accidentally whilst he played in his parents' make-shift darkroom as a child while they were at work. There's no telling how much paper and film was unknowingly destroyed in the process while he marveled in the red light of the darkroom. Again, later on, Mathew would re-discover his love and excitement for the magic of photography and the printing process quite accidentally when switching high schools his sophomore year, needing to choose an extra class to fit the new school schedule. One couldn't say if it was an actual decision or more the discovery of one's passion but this was it, photography and the essence of light. Fast forward a few decades later, film school, some wild rides and close calls and the passion has never left. Mathew has been constantly pursuing his bucket list of challenges and dreams throughout a lifetime of both commercial and fine art photography. Photographing everything from autopsies and aircraft to weddings and thousands of advertising products along the way, Mat has discovered that it's not merely the subject matter, it's the light and how it falls, bounces, illuminates, and wraps around everything we see. The craft of photography, for him, has become more about how one sees that light, makes the conscious effort to compose and capture that specific moment and share it with the world. Why? Simply because it's beautiful. Landscapes, nature, and the details of light are what inspires these compositions. Whether it be a vast landscape or a close-up macro image of a nail in wood, remember — it's mostly about the light and composition for Mathew, not so much about the content. We hope you enjoy this collection.
